But just because it's common doesn’t mean it’s normal. This Sight Saving Month puts the spotlight on are occurring health issue in the workplace: Digital Eye Strain.

What Is Digital Eye Strain?

Also known as computer vision syndrome, digital eyestrain refers to a group of eye and vision related problems that result from prolonged screen use. Common symptoms include:

  • Blurriness
  • Dry or watery eyes
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty focusing

These symptoms may seem minor at first, but when ignored, it can significantly affect productivity, comfort, and long-term eye health.

Prevention Tips for all Screen Users

  • Follow the 20-20-20 Rule
    • Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look somewhere20 feet away. This gives your eye muscles a chance to relax and refocus.
  • Blink Often
    • Locking onto a screen can distract you from blinking, leading to dry eyes. Make a conscious effort to blink more often or use eyedrops lubricating if needed.
  • Customize Your Display Settings
    • Avoid harsh overhead lighting and reduce screen glare by lessening the light source or changing the setting to dark mode.
  • Consider Blue Light Protection
    • Blue light from digital screens can disrupt sleep patterns and cause eye fatigue. Use blue light filters or glasses designed to block harmful blue light.
  • Lessen the Usage of Screens
    • Avoid using any gadgets before going to sleep and right at the moment you wake up.
  • Get Regular Eye Exams
