    MD Profile

Dr. Ang is a highly trained cardiologist specializing in cardiac electrophysiology—the field that deals with the heart’s electrical system and rhythm disorders. A graduate of FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine (Class of 1994, Cum Laude, 3rd in his class), he trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Michael Reese Hospital. He went on to complete his Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at the University of Minnesota's Lillehei Heart Institute, and further subspecialized in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the world-renowned Massachusetts General Hospital Corrigan Minehan Heart Center in Boston.Dr. Ang pioneered atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation in the Philippines and established both the country's AF ablation and outpatient electrical cardioversion programs—making advanced rhythm treatment more accessible to Filipino patients. He is deeply involved in research focused on curing arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation and Brugada Syndrome, helping improve treatment outcomes and prevent sudden cardiac death. His clinical work includes the diagnosis and advanced treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders, especially in patients with severe arrhythmias or heart failure. This includes performing catheter ablation procedures and implanting life-saving cardiac devices such as ICDs and cardiac resynchronization therapy systems. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ang is also committed to medical education, mentoring residents and cardiology fellows in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias and heart failure.

My research involves developing ablation strategies for curing atrial fibrillation involving posterior atrial wall isolation as well as superior vena cava isolation to prevent recurrences and improve success rates of atrial fibrillation ablation. I am also involved in research on epicardial ablation of patients with Brugada Syndrome as a form ofpermanent treatment to prevent ventricular tachy-arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.I established atrial fibrillation ablation in the Philippines and had started the atrialfibrillation ablation program in the Philippines as a permanent cure to atrial fibrillation, which has been successfully promulgated to the country. I also established an outpatient electrical cardioversion program at St. Luke’s for converting atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm to facilitate immediate care of patients without prolonged hospitalization. My teaching responsibilities include lectures and didactics for medical resident and cardiology fellows in topics related to cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure as well as participating in conferences and continuing medical education courses organized by theHeart Institute and Department of Medicine. My clinical activities include management of all forms of tachy-arrhythmias includingsevere ventricular storms. The management of these arrhythmias includes performing simple and particularly complex catheter ablation of supraventricular and ventriculartachy-arrhythmias.Due to my extensive training in managing patients with heart failure and hearttransplantation, my work also involves care of heart failure patients, particularly patient in their late stage of heart failure that requires extensive care including the implantation of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device for prevention of sudden cardiac death and device for cardiac resynchronization therapy to improve heart failure
